The Center Pompidou Malaga or Museo Pompidou Malaga was the first provisional Center Pompidou opened outside of France.

This concept serves as a pilot project for the Parisian art center and the idea is to offer the public a tour of reference works from the Center Pompidou collection, and accompany it with a program of exhibitions and multidisciplinary experiences, as well as exhibitions and workshops.

Brief history of the Center Pompidou Malaga.

The Museo Pompidou Málaga offers a journey through the art of the 20th and 21st centuries with selected works from the incomparable collection of the Center Pompidou, one of the two most important in the modern and contemporary world.

The Pompidou Malaga Museum was inaugurated on March 28, 2015 by the President of the Government of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, and the Minister of Culture of France, Fleur Pellerin.

The Pompidou Málaga was inaugurated with the semi-permanent exhibition The Collection where all the richness and changes of the 20th-21st century were reflected through five sets of paintings, sculptures, installations, films and videos, entitled: «Metamorphosis», «Self-portraits », «The man without a face», «The body politic» and «The body in pieces».

Architecture of the Pompidou Malaga Museum

The Pompidou Malaga Center has two floors, level 0 (access at street level) and level -1.

On level 0 are the service areas and free access: shop, lockers and Youth Public Space. In addition, on this floor is the temporary exhibition hall.
On level -1 are the exhibition spaces of the semi-permanent collection as well as the auditorium. The upper floor, the roof of the building, is completely diaphanous and is crowned by a large cube-shaped skylight made of steel and glass, which acts as a visible skylight and gives the complex its name.

In this cube, the artist Daniel Buren carried out the installation ‘Incubé’ in 2015, which has become the icon of the Center Pompidou Málaga.

This artistic intervention of Daniel Buren, is now a symbol of the institution in the city landscape, was purchased by the city council of the capital in 2017.

From Miró to Barceló. A century of Spanish art. [Permanent exhibition]

Summary: Cubism, surrealism, figuration, abstraction, painting, sculpture, cinema, video… In the entire history of art in the 20th and 21st centuries, there is no period or area that has not been dominated by Spanish artists. You can enjoy works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Luis Buñuel or Miquel Barceló, Cristina Iglesias and La Ribot. A chronological journey through a century of Spanish art shows that the generation of contemporary artists has kept the spirit of the avant-garde alive with extraordinary energy.

Sophie Calle [Temporary exhibition]

Dates: 11/19/2021 – 04/17/2022
Summary: She is a reference artist on the French and international art scene. In the early 1970s, she set out on a long journey across the world. Upon her return to Paris, she experimented for the first time with street tracking of anonymous passers-by. In addition, she is considered a multidisciplinary, conceptual creator, photographer and video artist.

The Pompidou Museum in Malaga is located in the Cube, a symbol of the museum and now of the city, in the newly expanded area of the city, Muelle Uno.
- The cube is a living, participatory installation in which the workshops, training and dissemination activities generate a strong sense of creative community.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 9:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (including holidays)
Closed every Tuesday, January 1 and December 25.
On December 24 and 31, the center will remain open until 3:00 p.m.

Free entry to the Pompidou Malaga.

Entrance to the Pompidou Malaga center is free every Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until closing time.

Admission will be free for the unemployed, those under 18 years of age, holders of the euro youth card, teachers and university students of Fine Arts and Art History, museum employees and members of ICOM, disabled people (with accreditation) and for the general public. Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until closing time.
